Paediatrics and the 'Signs'

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
Alhamdulillah, all praise be to ALLAH,the Most Gracious and the Most Merciful.

By ALLAH's willing and permission, I'm done with my paediatrics state exam a few days ago.It was a gift from ALLAH.Alhamdulillah .As a medical student,it is one of the biggest exams and a very important subject to master.

Frankly, my paeds knowledge is still far behind.Lots of facts and figures still need to be revised and inputted into my brain cells. In fact, medicine is about a life-time learning process, there is no short cut to reach its essence of understanding. Hopefully i'll be a good doc.

To master paeds is equated to the learning of the whole course of medicine(different student will definitely have different views concerning this matter) but focusing more on children from the newly birth until adolescent with some diseases and disorders specifically found only in children.

I was amazed throughout my reading about all the related diseases in paeds because for me this subject helps us to clearly see the power of almighty God, ALLAH S.W.T in the process of development of humankind, its maturation process and preparation to be a mature slave of ALLAH and mature enough to obey all HIS commands before we 'meet' HIM in the akhirat(hereafter).

In this process,so called Developmental Milestone, ALLAH equips us with the growing skills to enable us to learn to know HIM,to live with the way of life that is only accepted by HIM(Islam) and to worship and serve HIM as a slave and as a Khalifah that is entitled to a great task, leading this world and its content to the right path.

O mankind! If you are in doubt about the Resurrection, then verily! We have created you (i.e. Adam) from dust, then from a Nutfah (mixed drops of male and female sexual discharge i.e. offspring of Adam), then from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood) then from a little lump of flesh,— some formed and some unformed (as in the case of miscarriage), that We may make (it) clear to you (i.e. to show you Our Power and Ability to do what We will). And We cause whom We will to remain in the wombs for an appointed term, then We bring you out as infants, then (give you growth) that you may reach your age of full strength. And among you there is he who dies (young), and among you there is he who is brought back to the miserable old age, so that he knows nothing after having known. And you see the earth barren, but when We send down water (rain) on it, it is stirred (to life), it swells and puts forth every lovely kind (of growth). [22:5]
The skills or abilities gradually gained are particularly like change of body posture and moving certain body parts, recognizing mom and dad, holding objects, speaking, walking, eating and etc.Among the earliest skills that we suppose to have is to smile responsively at 6 weeks of life. The first 'charity or sedeqah' we made.

ALLAH is the most knowledgeable.HE knows in fact what is in the womb beforehand and what is happening inside and later on, and whether the fetus will survive or not.ALLAH knows best.So detailed that HE knows any smallest changes(mutation) in the gene that can affect a baby in the future. Our genetic components especially at this stage is so inevitably fragile that even a subtle changes could lead to a disorder.Down's Syndrome,Cystic Fibrosis(CF) and others are among the common disorder associated with genetic changes. In CF,the mutated CFTR gene leads to changes in a small protein that regulates ions movement in the cells of certain organs and it causes multitude of problems - lung infection, problem with your digestive system, infertility and so on.

ALLAH said,

"Allâh knows what every female bears, and by how much the wombs fall short (of their time or number) or exceed. Everything with Him is in (due) proportion " 13:8

I suppose everyone loves to see oneself in the mirror. No doubt. Some can even stand in front of it longer than he or she is standing in solah, worshiping ALLAH.But this time i urge anyone who read this,go to the mirror and lets ponder and reflect about what if ALLAH had slightly altered our tiny DNA or stop production of some important enzymes in any of the chromosomes exist in the body during our journey in mother's womb, what would happen then? Guys, seriously, you might not even know how your face would look like in the mirror.

There are many congenital(condition existing at birth and often before birth, or that develops during the first month of life) diseases or acquired one connected with child, infant or fetus. It would take ages to discuss that. But i guess it's enough for us just to continuously realize that ALLAH is the most merciful and because of HIS blessed that all of us had survived and continue our life into this world. Although there are some who were tested by ALLAH with some kind of disorders and thus i hope ALLAH will instill their heart with perseverances and give them great rewards in the hereafter for their patience.
Subhanallah, all praise due to ALLAH who had given us the strength and ability to live a normal life in this world. No disfigurement,No handicap. No disability.

Science is not just about a study of life, but its real purpose is to know the Creator of this life so that we will direct our faith only to HIM,the one and only.

What i always do is especially after solah, i will look at my palms and self-introspect all the sins that i have done with those hands.Astaghfirullahawaatubuilaih.

No one is perfect. We are fallible and inclined to do mistakes. And the only way to rectify it,is by knowing that ALLAH is there for us to forgive in whatever bad things that we could have done and hence ask for HIS forgiveness and repent immediately. The important reminder to bear in mind is death holds no interest on your taubah once it has come to you.

This message firstly goes in particular to my self and if it does affect you in a positive way, just remember that it's from ALLAH.If otherwise happened, may ALLAH forgives me.Please accept my apologies should there be any offensive remarks to anyone who had read this.

Jazakallah to all readers.
ALLAHU'ALAM

Salam
